ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR SUNDAY, AUGUST 1, 2010
1. This weekend, we will gather around the Lord’s Table for Communion. Also, our August film series begins tonight with “Darwin: The Voyage That Shook the World.” One hundred fifty years ago, one man, one voyage, one book ignited a controversy that still rages today. You won’t want to miss this film by Creation Ministries.
2. Next weekend, Dr. Abraham Kuruvilla from Dallas Seminary will be speaking. On Saturday, he will speak on “Extravagant Sacrifice” from Mark 14 and on Sunday morning, on “Jacob: Clinging to God” from Genesis 25-32.
3. Willing to serve? HGC Outreach is offering an opportunity to serve alongside Star of Hope Ministries in a VBS program in Paterson in August. Check out the bulletin!
4. Our Children’s Ministry needs helpers for Kid’s Clubs on Friday nights, which begins September 10 with Carnival! Teachers/adult helpers for Children’s Church on Sunday mornings and shadows for special needs children on Friday nights are also needed in the fall. Details are in the bulletin.
5. Ladies, Bible studies just for you will begin in September. Take a look in today’s bulletin for the various opportunities to study God’s Word with other women.
6. Interested in joining a Small Group or being a facilitator? See the bulletin for all the details about two important info sessions that are being planned for August 8 and August 28. Sign up for a session in the Pavilion today!
7. If you are interested in some information about becoming a greeter or a member of the prayer or communion setup teams, please visit the Pavilion today to sign up!
8. Join this year’s EWomen (Extraordinary Women) event, “Embracing Powerful Peace,” on Saturday, October 10, via live Simulcast at the Hawthorne Bible House. Call the Bible House for more info.

HAITI RELIEF FUND
Through the generosity of its people, Hawthorne Gospel Church recently contributed over $23,000 to the relief efforts in Haiti through the Christian organization Double Harvest. This organization has extensive facilities in Haiti which include a small hospital, church, school, wells with good water, gardens, fish farms, a reforestation project, and housing and feeding facilities to handle large numbers of people.
One hundred percent of our donation went to the relief efforts extended to the victims of the earthquake. Our contribution was used to purchase food and to feed those in need, to purchase medical supplies and provide medical care, and to purchase fuel for the transportation of supplies, to run the generator and to pump pure water from the wells. In the early stages of the relief effort, the center was feeding over 3,000 people a day. They now feed about 1,500 people a day. Along with helping toward the physical needs of the people, Double Harvest is there to share Christ and His love with them.
Double Harvest has expressed its deep gratitude to the people of HGC for their generosity. Their work continues as the country tries to rebuild after the disaster; and if you wish to contribute to them, you may send it through the church – mark the pew envelope Haiti. We also look forward to sending a team of construction workers to Haiti in the future to help with their building needs at the Double Harvest site.
